CD project reboot: studio sessions, redux

After some careful thought, we've scrapped everything we did in March. we realized we were neitheras  relaxed nor as ready as we needed to be, and while James ' studio was great for what it was, we really needed something with a bit more flexibility space and isolation wise.

Enter Third Eye Studio , about 1/2 hour east of the city, in Tijeras.

Lovely spot, with a big sunny main room where we set up the drums, giving it that Bonham stairwell effect.

Our proposed schedule was this: load in, get decent sounds and some test runs on Day 1; track all the Gretsch material Day 2; fretless and oud, Day 3; cleanups/retakes/fixes on Day 4.

Im pleased to report this actually has gone according to plan!

I  did two days of cleans ups/fixes the week after.

The studio sounds glorious and we've got some great  performances: Hendrix goes to Bengal, Johnny Cash dhrupad, some very lovely oud stuff. Dave and Dana were fabulous and easy to work with!

Now it's on to some careful review, editing and mixing -   and launching our Kickstarter campaign!

Pray For Brain Profiled in Albuquerque The Magazine

Special thanks to Mel Minter, Liz Lopez, and the editorial staff at Albuquerque The Magazine for the nice write up on Pray For Brain in the June issue, on stands now (page 214).

Mel did a great job -- he gets us --  and  while journalistic decorum prevented him from taking due credit, he was the one who at the interview session at rehearsal floated the proposed album title, which we're going with.

Pleased to report the concert was a great success! Full house, we put our heart into it and I believe it went over very well.

Onward and upward from here!

Special thanks to Tom Guralnick of the Outpost Performance Space, Andres Martines for the fabulous sound, Jimmy Lusero for manning the door, Julie Brett Adams for her fabulous opening moments,  Kiko Dill-Boyce for helping w/the schelp and making sure the vid was on, Rosanna Hicks for more vid work, but especially  to everyone who came out. Your support is invaluable to us and deeply appreciated.

A special thanks also to Jim Gale, who took fabulous photos that really captured the energy and dynamism of the band. More of his work from that night can be seen here and a few more below.

Most of the concert is up on a Pray For Brain playlist on our YouTube channel; it gives a good sense of how this group works live. I've also posted the sequence on the videos page. If you were there, you can relive it, if not, see what you missed!

Re-energized after the gig, new prep begins to finish the CD  and new performances are being lined up. Also, look for an article in the June issue of ABQ The Mag!
